Free Class. Anyone who is considering becoming a student in Old Belief Society is invited to come and try out a class, free of charge. Classes are available on an ongoing basis and typically include meditation instruction and one of three types of lessons: a teaching about some aspect of Celtic history, religion, or culture; instruction in a hands-on spiritual practice; or a teaching from one of the sacred stories. Find contact info on our Temples page.
Aug. 4-6 Summer Retreat. Each year Old Belief Society offers a Summer and Winter Retreat. This summer we will hold our retreat near the shore of Lake Michigan in southern Wisconsin. Students will receive instruction in outdoor living skills, communion with nature, intensive meditation training, and special magical teachings not offered in regular classes. If time permits, several tales from the Fenian cycle will be recited and discussed. This years Summer Retreat is open to any members who have passed Level 2 of the Student Teachings. Cost is $40/person.
Sept. Pagan Pride Fest. Neimheadh an Srutha, our chief temple, normally turns out to Twin Cities Pagan Pride Fest-one of the largest gatherings of polytheists and neopagans in the country. Although our teachingas are quite different from much of neopaganism, we like to show solidarity with all the diverse groups who honour nature and the deities of traditional cultures. Attendance is free and any Old Belief Society students are invited to volunteer to help us staff our booth and public presentation. This years presentation topic is T.B.A. In past years we have had public ceremonies and held a céilí (Irish folk dance).
Oíche Samhna. This major Samhain celebration will be by invitation only. Students and other members and friends of the Old Belief Society will be able to sing, dance, make music, and feast with us as we celebrate the end of summer, the beginning of a new year, and one of the most magical nights of the year. This night will also include initiation for students who are ready to begin the druíocht teachings. Attendance is free; dates T.B.A.
